Il MAO Museo Arte Orientale organizza una performance musicale per l’inaugurazione della mostra di Chiharu Shiota: The Soul Trembles.

Folklore ultramoderno:
il clubbing sperimentale si intreccia con la mitologia e la tradizione giapponese
I WaqWaq Kingdom sono un duo giapponese di tribal bass, formato da Kiki Hitomi e Shigeru Ishihara, basato a Lipsia e Berlino.
Il loro suono gioca con generi e epoche diversi, come una psichedelica nabe hot pot (grande pentola di carne, pesce e verdure in brodo, in cui i giapponesi cucina e servono il nabemono).
Fondono i ritmi dei Matsuri, le grandi feste popolari di strada, (originariamente feste religiose, sacre, di origine religiosa shintoista), con strumenti musicali tradizionali, fuochi d'artificio, sfilate, maschere; lo stile tradizionale folk giapponese Minyo; la dancehall giamaicana; il footwork della break dance; il dubstep; la hardcore techno; le poliritmie tribali; le colonne sonore di Super Nintendo; il post-punk, il noise, in un’infinita gamma di derive stilistiche.
Shigeru Ishihara, alias DJ Scotch Egg, da oltre un decennio è attivo nella galassia della dance music; pubblica dischi imprevedibili per Load Records e Nyege Nyege Tapes; inoltre è membro della band post-rock britannica Seefeel.
La cantautrice Kiki Hitomi è stata membro dei King Midas Sound (insieme a The Bug e Roger Robinson) e ha co-fondato l’iconico duo giapponese dubstep-noise Dokkebi Q. Hanno un seguito in Italia, dove tornano spesso. Il direttore del MAO Davide Quadrio li ha invitati espressamente come evento inaugurale del public programme che celebrare la grande mostra aperta oggi.

Ultramodern folklore: experimental clubbing meets Japanese mythology
WaqWaq Kingdom are a Japanese tribal bass duo formed by Kiki Hitomi and Shigeru Ishihara, based in Leipzig and Berlin.
Their sound blends genres and eras like a psychedelic nabe hot pot (a large pot of meat, fish, and vegetables simmered in broth, in which Japanese people cook and serve nabemono).
They blend the rhythms of the Matsuri—the great popular street festivals (originally sacred Shinto religious celebrations)—with traditional musical instruments, fireworks, parades, masks; the traditional Japanese folk style Minyo; Jamaican dancehall; breakdance footwork; dubstep; hardcore techno; tribal polyrhythms; Super Nintendo soundtracks; post-punk; and noise, into an endless range of stylistic offshoots.
Shigeru Ishihara, a.k.a. DJ Scotch Egg, has been active in the dance music scene for over a decade. He releases unpredictable records with Load Records and Nyege Nyege Tapes, and is also a member of the British post-rock band Seefeel.
Singer-songwriter Kiki Hitomi was a member of King Midas Sound (alongside The Bug and Roger Robinson) and co-founded the iconic Japanese dubstep-noise duo Dokkebi Q. They have a following in Italy, where they often return. Davide Quadrio, the director of MAO, has personally invited them as the opening event of the public programme celebrating the major exhibition that opens today.
